Nicole Scherzinger hits back at heavy criticism from X Factor viewers

She's defended herself following Sunday night's outrage

Nicole Scherzinger has defended herself after being criticised for not wearing a poppy during last night’s X Factor live show.

The former Pussycat Doll, 39, endured the wrath of some X Factor fans after rocking up for Sunday night’s results show in a daring white gown… but no poppy.

Well, Nicole has now come out to explain what happened – and hit back at criticism she was disrespectful to appear on TV without the symbol of Remembrance Day.

She tweeted: “i’m always late, it fell off running to stage and replaced it as soon we could! i have the upmost respect for everything it stands for! (sic).”

Fans were quick to assure Nicole she didn’t need to explain herself, with one saying: “You don’t have to explain why you did or didn’t wear a poppy. It’s nobody’s business but your own.”

Another said: “You don’t have to explain yourself to anyone actually!! Even if you don’t wear a poppy that’s your right to do so!!”

A third added: “You don’t have to justify anything. You’re a human being first and shouldn’t be under such ridiculous scrutiny.”

A rep for X Factor confirmed Nicole’s tweet to Digital Spy, saying: “Nicole’s poppy fell off her outfit on the walk to the stage.

“She was alerted during the recording and put a poppy on during the break. Nicole has been wearing a poppy over the past week, including the Saturday show.”

Nicole’s lack of a poppy had been a major talking point on Twitter during Sunday’s show.

A slew of angry fans questioned why Nicole wasn’t wearing a poppy when the people around her were each wearing one.

However, a poppy appeared on her dress mid-way through the results show.

It wasn’t really the best night all around for Nicole, who lost contestant Tracey Leanne Jefford from her Overs category in the latest public vote.

Nicole said following the result: “I’m so sad for my girl but so grateful for all the support for her.

“She is such an inspiration to all women out there and this is just the beginning for her!”
