Jake Quickenden shares ADHD diagnosis

Taking to Instagram yesterday, Jake shared some important news with his one million followers.

The star shared a snap of himself smiling along with a lengthy caption, announcing the news.

“This is me…. So last year I finally got diagnosed with ADHD…. Something I always thought I might have after being told by everyone that I had it, and it makes sense now,” he said.

“I’ve had a lot of time to process it and my mind works differently, but that’s ok, it also answered a lot of questions for me, explained why I can feel anxious, how I can feel unbelievably motivated but some days feel flat and unmotivated,” he then continued.

“I look at it like this I see it as a superpower,” he then said. “Yes I am extremely impulsive and slightly annoying at times I have too much energy and feel guilty if I’m just sat around, but also if harnessed in the correct ways it makes me hyper-focused on certain things, extremely loving, and empathetic.”

Jake continued, saying, “I also am not writing this for any reason other than to say being slightly different isn’t bad.”

He then went on to hit back at stereotypes of people with ADHD, notably that they’re “disruptive” or “naughty”.

“Yes my mind wanders sometimes I can be a little forgetful, sometimes I just decide to clean my wardrobe out at 11pm at night and organise my life,” he then continued.

“But if I love something then I put my all into it. I think it’s a conversation a lot of people are having now, and watching people on tv and in the public talk more about it I was like cool,” he then said.

“So this is me just saying it out loud and hopefully it can reach one person and help. Anyways I think I’m saying something today because why not, even as I’m typing this I’m overthinking it a lot, but no bad can come from opening up only good,” he then continued.

Jake then said he loves the way the mind works and that we should all “embrace our true selves”.
