9 things that happen following Aidan’s death in Coronation Street

It's a devastating week

As we all know by now that was Shayne Ward’s final episode of Coronation Street as – in an hour long special on Wednesday – Johnny Connor will discover that Aidan has taken his own life.

As the terrible news spreads around the cobbles, it affects everyone who knew Aidan in different ways.

David finally tells Shona about the rape

Maria tells David that Aidan has committed suicide and the news has a huge effect on our lad. We’ve seen him self-harm and feel suicidal since being raped by Josh but Aidan’s action make him realise he doesn’t want to die. He finally confesses to Shona that Josh spiked his drink and raped him. Shona is devastated but vows to help him and they reunite.

Johnny blames himself

Johnny can’t cope with the fact Aidan chose to take his own life or that he finds his body. He desperately feels as though he’s failed his son as he tries to piece everything together and work out why Aidan chose this path. As the Connors close ranks, Jenny feels left out in the cold. Will Aidan’s death break his dad’s marriage?

Shona confronts Josh

Sickened by David’s confession, Shona confronts Josh and tells him she knows he raped David. Josh denies it and says David cheated on her and they had consensual sex. Shona doesn’t believe him and tells him he’s a liar and she will make sure he goes down for rape. Josh is very clearly rattled.

Eva returns and ‘meets’ Susie

A devastated Eva arrives back in Weatherfield, pretending she’s just got back from America. She ‘meets’ baby Susie for the first time and can’t stop cuddling her. While alone with the baby and Toyah, she tells Toyah she can definitely see Aidan in the little girl. Is Eva having second thoughts about letting Toyah take her daughter now Aidan is dead?

Adam is filled with guilt

Adam struggles when news of Aidan’s suicide reaches him. He feels guilty because of his rivalry with Aidan and how he stitched him up over the factory. Unable to deal with his emotions he gets drunk at the Bistro and chats up a woman called Niamh before taking her back to the flat for sex. But he gets a shock when he arrives home.

David is arrested

On the day Aidan’s body is found, David is due in court for his plea hearing for his attack on Gary. David struggles to process the news that Aidan has taken his own life and he runs away from Imran, skipping his hearing. Although he confesses to Shona that Josh raped him and they reunite, their reunion doesn’t last long as David is arrested for failing to attend court and sent to prison. How will he cope?

Johnny searches for answers

Johnny becomes convinced that something must’ve happened to trigger Aidan’s tragic actions so he tries to piece together his son’s movements on the night he killed himself. He pays Toyah and Eva a visit wondering if they can shed any light on what happened between Aidan leaving his and Jenny’s party to him taking his own life.

Both women saw Aidan the night before he died. He arrived at Eva’s secret hideaway after working out that baby Susie is actually his daughter. After learning that Aidan had been to visit Eva who was convinced Aidan wanted to give things another go, Toyah paid Aidan a visit. Did either of their words tip him over the edge? Eva and Toyah certainly think so.

Josh sleeps with Alya

Rattled by Shona’s words, Josh decides he needs to build himself up an alibi and thinks having a girlfriend will make him look less guilty. He turns up at Alya’s with flowers and she kisses him passionately before leading him into the bedroom.
