Radio and TV star Dermot O’Leary once opened up about a health struggle which left Bake Off host Alison Hammond surprised.
Dermot and Alison regularly present This Morning together and have formed a close bond. However, a revelation from Dermot – who appears on Bake Off’s SU2C special on Sunday (April 7) – about his health once left her stunned.

In July 2023, Dermot and Alison were joined by expert and resident doctor, Dr Nadia, to discuss back pain.
While introducing the segment, Alison said: “Now it’s the most common form of chronic pain in the UK. Backache affects more than six million people every single year.”
In response, Dermot raised his hand, confessing he suffered from back pain.
Alison admitted she was surprised, stating: “I didn’t know you struggled with it,” while rubbing his back.
Dr Nadia insisted he should come to her clinic so she could support his back pain. Dermot explained he had seen a physio, who had recommended him to strengthen his back instead of stretching.
Dr Nadia stated there were benefits to doing both.

Opening up about his mental health in 2019, Dermot also revealed he is lucky to have never suffered with it.
“I’m kind of lucky if I’m honest with you. I’ve always had a good structure around me and I’ve always been a cup-half-full sort of person. Everyone gets blue and I embrace it sometimes. It’s not bad to have blue days,” he said.
“We all have our ups and downs in life. But for the most part, I’m unwaveringly a happy, cheery person. I think a lot, but I’ve always been an optimist. It’s just something I feel very blessed with and I’m lucky it hasn’t affected me.”
