A huge new role for Zara Tindall hinges on Prince William’s future as king

Zara could have a new duty to fulfil

New reports suggest Zara Tindall could be poised for a far more prominent role within the royal family in the future. Much of that potential change appears to hinge on Prince William and the direction he may take when he eventually becomes king.

As speculation grows around how the monarchy might evolve under William’s reign, attention has turned to which family members could be asked to step forward. In that context, Princess Anne’s daughter is increasingly being tipped as someone who could take on new responsibility behind the scenes.

Zara Tindall could be set for a big new responsibility when Prince William becomes king

There is often much speculation about what will happen when the Prince of Wales takes to the throne.

In fact, many believe Wills is set to give the monarchy a shake up. Including handing out some new roles and dividing up some responsibility.

Even to those who currently aren’t working royals – like Zara Tindall.

Currently, Zara Tindall holds no title.

This means she is not paid by the crown. Instead, she is a successful Olympic equestrian and businesswoman.

These days, her work typically focusing on brand ambassadorships.

However, this might change when Prince William succeeds King Charles.

The Prince of Wales is rumoured to be eager to flesh out the ranks again as the selection of working royals within The Firm is looking a bit depleted…

Zara Tindall showed off her “soft power” earlier this month, during a visit to Australia.

There she attended an equestrian-themed visit in support of her role as Magic Millions Racing Women Ambassador.

Olympian Zara told observers at the time: “We love coming here. It’s like a second home to us.”

Zara Tindall’s love for equestrianism

The royal is clearly dedicated to equestrianism. Zara is often seen spectating at racecourses or attending horse shows.

She visits Surfers Paradise in Queensland every year for the Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

This devotion has sparked speculation that the one-time BBC Sports Personality of the Year could be offered a major role when William becomes king.

Writing in Woman & Home magazine, royal editor Emily Andrews mused that Zara would be a good fit as patron of The Royal Stud at Sandringham.

Andrews said: “Under King William, I could even see Zara being handed the patronage of The Royal Stud in Sandringham. Plus royal racing at Cheltenham and Ascot.”

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond reportedly agrees.

Zara’s royal future

She told OK! magazine, as per The Mirror: “There will be so many demands on William’s time when he is King that I think it’s a brilliant idea, if the reports are to be believed, that he might hand over racing matters to Zara.

“Like her mother, she lives and breathes horses. She’s also extremely glamorous and well-liked, and it would be a perfect fit.”

Zara, her mother Princess Anne and her grandmother Queen Elizabeth are all known to share a deep passion for horses.

“I have conducted a lifelong love affair with the horse,” she memorably said.

The equestrianism gene

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II once famously said: “I have conducted a lifelong love affair with the horse.”

The late Queen’s thoroughbred racehorses were always bred at The Royal Stud in Sandringham, Norfolk.

The famed facility is officially the oldest thoroughbred breeding centre in the world.

Evidently, Zara followed that equestrian path closely, mirroring her mother Princess Anne and earning her own Olympic success.

She won the individual eventing world title at Aachen in 2006, before later securing a team silver medal at the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

Princess Anne even presented Zara with her medal, echoing her own history as the first member of the British royal family to compete at the Games.

As Prince William looks ahead to the future of the monarchy, discussions about modernisation and support continue to gather pace. Whether Zara Tindall ultimately steps into a more official role remains to be seen.

However, given her experience, public appeal and lifelong connection to equestrianism, many believe she could be a natural fit for a carefully chosen responsibility when the time comes.
