Princess of Wales supported by monarch at private lunch after recording cancer statement: ‘He’s extremely concerned’

'It will have brought them closer together'

The Princess of Wales and King Charles met for a private lunch after she recorded the video telling the world she had been diagnosed with cancer, it’s been claimed.

Kate made the announcement earlier this month, revealing that after her major abdominal surgery, doctors had discovered cancer. She is now in the early stages of preventive chemotherapy.

King Charles, meanwhile, is also undergoing cancer treatment. It was discovered after he was hospitalised for an unrelated prostate operation.

Princess of Wales met King Charles for lunch after recording cancer statement

According to Hello’s Right Royal podcast, the monarch and his beloved daughter-in-law met for lunch at Windsor Castle after Kate recorded her video.

In the video she explained that after her op, doctors had told her they’d discovered cancer. She said she was navigating the diagnosis with husband Prince William and had told their three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Now, royal author Robert Hardman has claimed that the Princess of Wales and King Charles met for lunch after the recording of the video, before it went out to the public.

But it’s very clear that he is extremely concerned about her and I think he wants to make sure that she knows that.

“Shortly after the Princess of Wales recorded the message, she went around to the castle, and there was a private lunch with the King,” he claimed. “We don’t know what was discussed. But it’s very clear that he is extremely concerned about her and I think he wants to make sure that she knows that.”

Robert added: “It’s very much her and William dealing with this. But Charles wants to ensure that if there’s anything he can do, he will do it.”

‘The Windsors are mortals like the rest of us’

Speaking about the diagnosis of cancer for both Kate and Charles, Robert said: “It’s a reminder that the Windsors are mortals like the rest of us. It’s the shock of a lifetime except they’re having to undergo it with all of us knowing about it.”

However, he said that their shared experience has most likely already brought them even closer together. “I’m sure he’s been a source of comfort for her as I’m sure she’s probably been a source of comfort for him. It will have brought them closer together. He’s always had a huge regard for her but it’s entrenched that.”

He also shared that Kate and Charles did meet up while they were being treated at The London Clinic at the same time.

“I understand that the Princess was in hospital at the same time as the King. They overlapped by three days. The King was there, the Queen was there and they did go round to reassure the Princess,” he said.

However, Robert shared: “The experience of cancer will be very different for the King than the Princess of Wales. For a very fit and healthy young mother, this is a different order of magnitude to someone having to deal with this in their late seventies.”

‘For Prince William there are multiple challenges’

Sharing his fears for Prince William, he concluded: “The stresses on everybody at the moment is immense. For Prince William there are multiple challenges coming in all sorts of different directions. But at his absolute core, he’s made it very clear, is his wife and his family.”
