Gavin And Stacey star Alison Steadman has shared an update after she revealed she was living in a wheelchair following her nasty fall.
The 79-year-old actress, who played Pam in the popular series, fell in Dubai at the Desert Stanzas event in February.
Due to an uneven pavement, she harmed herself and was photographed at the airport with her wrists covered in bandages and her foot in a cast while in a wheelchair. Now she’s revealed she’s finally on the road to recovery…
Alison Steadman shares health update following fall
At the time, Alison said she “went flying” when the accident happened.
She continued: “At the hospital, I had tablets for the pain. It’s been terrible. I don’t think I’ve broken my leg but I twisted it badly so there could be a hairline fracture.”
Alison shared that she needed follow-up treatment at her local hospital. Then, back in April, Alison issued more sad news.
‘The important thing is that I’m alive’
During an interview with the Daily Star, Alison said she “knew when I fell that it was serious”, insisting: “The pain was so bad.”
She explained: “If I’d banged my head the way I banged my foot, I promise you, I would not be here.
“Every time I get fed up, I say that to myself. The important thing is that I’m alive.”
Alison has suffered a fracture and depends on doing her daily duties while in a wheelchair. “I’ve been in a wheelchair for eight weeks. I am getting a bit frustrated. I want to get out and about more,” she said.
Alison looked on the positive side of things, stating that with her wheelchair, she could “get around my flat” and “move around”. If not, she’d “be in bed or sitting in a chair and I don’t want that”.
Fresh update – and Alison is on the mend
Today (November 4), speaking to The Mirror, Alison has shared a happier update.
“That fall was just terrible, shocking – it was an awful time. I’ve got to have another operation on my foot soon, to take the metal screws out of it. But I’ve finally just stopped using a stick, which is great – I am walking again, hurrah!” she shared.
