Host of Good Morning Britain Susanna Reid admitted she is fearful of checking herself for breast cancer.
Susanna, 55, made the admission last summer. The presenters welcomed former I’m A Celebrity star Giovanna Fletcher to the show, who discussed the importance of regular health checks.
GMB star Susanna Reid shares cancer fears
Last year, singer Jessie J announced she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. This prompted Susanna and Giovanna to emphasise how crucial it is to self-examine.
However, despite being fully aware of the importance, Susanna admitted she is “reluctant” to check herself.
“I have to admit, and I’m sure I’m not alone, that I am sometimes reluctant to check myself because I am worried about what I might find,” she said.
Susanna insisted it is “entirely irrational”, despite stating that Jessie J had pointed out that it is better to find something sooner rather than later.
Giovanna agreed, telling Susanna and viewers at home that people should not be “scared” of checking themselves. She believed it should be a part of everyone’s “monthly routine” so it becomes more of a regular check and less of a big deal.
“Psychologically, there’s a process of denial; if I don’t find it, it’s not there, and I don’t need to worry about it,” Susanna continued.
Jessie J cancer diagnosis
After announcing to fans that she has breast cancer, Jessie revealed she would be taking time out from work following cancer surgery.
“It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job,” she joked.
