BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty shared the emotional news that former football manager Kevin Keegan has been diagnosed with cancer.
Naga presented this morning’s (January 8) show alongside regular co-host Charlie Stayt.
They were joined in the studio by Matt Taylor and Natalie Pirks, who shared the latest weather and sports updates. Emma Vardy also reported on a rise in holiday bookings.
However, it wasn’t until later in the show that Naga announced that footie legend Kevin had cancer.

While sharing the news with BBC Breakfast viewers, she said: “Former England football manager Kevin Keegan has been diagnosed with cancer. In a statement, his family said he’d been in hospital for abdominal symptoms and that he’s now receiving treatment.”
“Following the news of his diagnosis, there has been a show of support for the 74-year-old, including from his former club Newcastle United.”
In a pre-recorded segment, BBC Sports journalist Joe Lynskey shared a touching tribute.
“In Newcastle, they call him the King for a reason. Kevin Keegan and this club share a deep bond. As a player, his goals dragged them from the second tier to the top flight. As a manager, he took them to the brink of the title. Last night, as this ground took in the news of his cancer diagnosis, they rallied round their hero,” he said.
‘Here’s to a speedy recovery’
As the news made headlines, many other messages of support poured in.
Newcastle United wrote: “Our former player & manager, Kevin Keegan will undergo treatment after being diagnosed with cancer having been admitted to hospital for further evaluation of ongoing abdominal symptoms. King Kev. We’re with you every step of the way. Hoping for a full and speedy recovery.”
Meanwhile, Geordie duo Ant and Dec added: “Sending love and very best wishes to King Kev and the Keegan family. Here’s to a speedy recovery.”
“Sending very best wishes to this lovely man and total football legend,” another person shared.
“Thoughts with Kevin Keegan and family, strength to fight to you all,” a fourth said.
