With Love, Meghan: Meghan Markle’s estranged half-sister unleashes attack on duchess’ ‘fake’ and ‘insulting’ comments in Netflix show

Meghan's comments about her upbringing have been called 'fake'

Meghan Markle’s estranged half-sister, Samantha Markle, has publicly slammed the Duchess of Sussex’s new Netflix series With Love, Meghan – calling her comments about her childhood “fake” and “insulting”.

Appearing on broadcaster Dan Wootton’s independent newscast, Dan Wootton Outspoken, Samantha mocked Meghan’s claims about growing up with TV dinners and financial struggles.

She insisted that they were far from the reality of their upbringing.

“It was dig after dig,” Samantha said, accusing Meghan of deliberately rewriting her past.

Samantha Markle calls Meghan Markle’s claims ‘totally fake’ in Netflix show With Love, Meghan

During the hour-long broadcast, Dan Wootton and his panel of guests, including royal commentators and YouTuber PDina, dissected Meghan’s controversial remarks in the series.

One particular point of contention was Meghan’s frequent references to eating fast food and takeout as a child.

In episode two, guest Mindy Kaling was shocked when Meghan claimed that she grew up eating a lot of fast food.

Some perceived this as an indirect insult to her estranged father, Thomas Markle.

Dan addressed the topic directly.

“Also awkward – and I didn’t like this, Samantha – was Meghan slagging off your father again,” he began. “Certainly not doing it by name, but it’s as if he doesn’t exist in her world.”

It’s not hurtful anymore, it’s become a joke at this point. Nobody buys it.

Referring to Meghan’s claims about growing up on cheap TV dinners, Dan asked Samantha: “She keeps going on and on about, ‘I grew up with lots of takeaways, I just grew up with TV meals, we got no good food, Taco Bell, Jack in the Box.’ Firstly, Sam, is that true? And did you sense that it was just dig after dig at your amazing dad?”

Samantha dismissed the claims outright, calling Meghan’s narrative a complete fabrication.

“Yeah, it was dig after dig,” she responded. “She went to the best restaurants in Los Angeles. We all did. So that and rubbing the nickels together to get a Sizzler steak, fruit, and salad bar – it was just crazy. Totally fake, totally insulting. And it’s not hurtful anymore, it’s become a joke at this point. Nobody buys it.”

Samantha calls Meghan’s ‘latchkey kid’ claim a lie

Another controversial statement made by Meghan in the show was that she was a “latchkey kid”.

This term refers to a child who returns home alone after school while their parents work.

YouTuber PDina, who has previously spoken to Thomas Markle, called out this claim as false.

“When she said she was a latchkey kid – a latchkey kid is a child that goes home alone by themselves to eat these TV dinners and things that she was saying,” she began. “We know, because I spoke with her dad, and he told me – and I’m sure Samantha, of course, you would know – that she would go to the set of Married… with Children after school.”

Thomas Markle was an Emmy-winning lighting director who worked on Hollywood sets. He notably worked on the popular sitcom Married… with Children, where Meghan often spent time as a child.

PDina continued: “She wasn’t going home alone by herself. That’s a blatant lie. She was not a latchkey kid.”

Samantha sarcastically added: “Yeah. Hanging out at ABC TV studios is really depressing.”

Meghan’s strained relationship with her father and family

Dan, who has long been critical of Meghan, chimed in on the discussion, highlighting that Meghan’s father played a significant role in her Hollywood career.

Meghan has been estranged from her father and the Markle side of the family for years. Thomas Markle and Samantha have publicly criticised her multiple times, especially in the lead-up to her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.

‘Traumatised’ Jane McDonald urged to see ‘PTSD therapist’ by worried pal Sue after Ed’s death

Jane McDonald, whose show, Crusing: Down Under, is on today (Saturday, February 8), once opened up about how her partner, Ed’s, death, “traumatised” her.

The star lost her long-term partner, Ed, back in 2021. He had been battling lung cancer prior to his death.

Jane McDonald on losing Ed

On March 26, 2021, Jane‘s partner, Ed, sadly died following a battle with lung cancer.

Ed and Jane had briefly dated when they were 17 back in 1980. Many years later, they reconciled, getting engaged in 2008.

In an interview with The Times back in October 2024, Jane opened up about grieving for Ed, and how her friend, Sue, helped her in the aftermath of his passing.

When asked how her lockdown experience was, Jane said: “I nursed Ed virtually singlehandedly. I barely slept and was in a constant state of high alert. When he died, I was emotionally wrung out and physically exhausted. I did a lot of crying and didn’t want to leave the house. When you are grieving, there is nothing as tempting as shutting yourself away. Home becomes your rabbit hole.”

The star then continued.

“Sue could see I was traumatised and advised me to see a PTSD therapist. Walks, sometimes to nearby Sandal Castle, helped me reconnect with the outside world. I also went back to work,” she said.

Sue could see I was traumatised.

“I wouldn’t rule out meeting somebody new, but equally I’m embracing the freedom that comes with being single. I go out an awful lot more than I did before,” she then added.

Jane reveals Loose Women helped her reconnect with Ed

In September 2024, Jane revealed that without Loose Women, she may not have reconnected with Ed.

Jane hadn’t seen Ed for 27 years when she bumped into him while on This Morning.

“We just met and that was it. We were together ever since,” she said.

They began dating, however, Ed went away for a while at one point. This then led to Jane getting “fed up”, and she ended up “dumping” him.

However, Loose Women made sure their relationship didn’t end. They organised for Ed to send Jane a Valentine’s message, where he expressed his love for her.

They reconciled after that and remained together until his death in 2021.
