Coronation Street has revealed how Nina Lucas will leave Weatherfield as Mollie Gallagher prepares to step away from the soap after seven years.
Fans were shocked when Mollie’s departure was announced. But Nina’s exit storyline is now becoming clearer after she was offered a new job away from the cobbles.
And while Nina is saying goodbye to Weatherfield, Mollie has an exciting career move of her own lined up.
Nina got offered a job away from Coronation Street
Last week, Nina told Roy about a job she had been encouraged to apply for. Although there was one major catch. The position was in Whitby.
Roy was quick to encourage his niece to go for it, telling her that she should take the opportunity while she is young.
Nina subsequently went to the interview, but when she returned in tonight’s episode (Friday August 21), she was convinced that she hadn’t done enough to secure the position.
She opened up to Asha about how much she had been looking forward to the opportunity, only for her phone to bleep.
Asha grabbed it and delivered some very good news. Nina had actually smashed the interview and had been offered the job.
That means Nina’s time on the cobbles is now coming to an end. But what prompted Mollie to leave the soap?
Why is Mollie Gallagher leaving the soap?
Mollie has landed a huge new role from Nina in Coronation Street, having been cast as Clarice Starling in the stage adaptation of Silence of the Lambs.
The actress has already made her debut and recently opened up about the opportunity while speaking to Radio Times.
Mollie admitted she was incredibly excited about the role. Although she also revealed that taking on such a big opportunity came with plenty of nerves.
She explained: “This is only my second professional job. So, I don’t know if this ever goes away for anybody, but there is a big feeling of imposter syndrome. I’ve not done professional theatre and I feel like I’m very much in the unknown.”
When Mollie was first offered the role, she had hoped that she could somehow juggle the theatre production with her role on Coronation Street.
However, she soon realised that taking on both simply wouldn’t be possible.
She said: “Originally I really wanted to find a way to do both. It sounds ridiculous hearing it now, but I had seen theatre runs where different actors take on stints. But I realised pretty quickly that could never work.
“It’s so hard. Because, obviously, being on Corrie has been my dream. But also, you want to explore other things. And to be offered something as great as this, and not be able to do it would be devastating.”
With Nina now having accepted a job in Whitby, it looks like her exit from Weatherfield is firmly on the horizon.
And while fans will no doubt be sad to see Nina leave, Mollie’s new role gives her the chance to explore an exciting new chapter.
