Strictly star Ellie Taylor rushed her three-year-old son to A&E after he developed croup symptoms during a family holiday in Sussex.
The new Strictly: It Takes Two host said her little boy had only a mild cough before they reached their Airbnb. However, his condition quickly worsened after their arrival and he began struggling to breathe.
The family scare comes as the comedian prepares for a high-profile new role during a period of major change for Strictly Come Dancing.
Ellie Taylor takes son to Chichester A&E
Writing over a picture on Instagram, Ellie explained: “Almost as soon as we arrived at our Airbnb, the toddler decided to upgrade his mild cough to full blown struggling-to-breathe-croup.”
Ellie then took her son to Chichester A&E late at night. Hospital staff gave him steroids before the family returned to their holiday accommodation.
The 42-year-old praised the team who looked after them. She wrote: “Staff were all brilliant and the steroids even better. We were home by midnight and determined to crack on and enjoy a few days on the beach after all the lovely sun we’ve had.”
Ellie also revealed that she had been to A&E five times with her son. She joked about arriving at hospital without make-up and feeling exhausted, while one of her pictures showed the youngster waiting in his pyjamas and Crocs.

Family holiday continues after hospital trip
Ellie captured the mood of the disrupted break with the caption: “Nothing like being on holiday dreaming of being on holiday.”
A fall on gravel added another complication when her son cut his leg on the way to dinner. Her updates also showed the family taking a beach stroll despite torrential rain, while Ellie said the youngster seemed perkier.
Ellie Taylor’s new Strictly It Takes Two role
The health scare happened shortly after Ellie became the new presenter of the Strictly Come Dancing companion programme.
Her appointment as the new Strictly It Takes Two host brings her back into the ballroom fold. Ellie competed on Strictly Come Dancing in 2022.
Away from Strictly, she has built her career as a stand-up comedian and actor. TV fans may also recognise her as Flo “Sassy” Collins in the Apple series Ted Lasso.
Ellie will now take charge of It Takes Two following a revamp of the Strictly spin-off. Her holiday update showed that, before the demands of her new presenting job begin, family life had already delivered plenty of unexpected drama.
