John Barrowman has faced an “entitled” backlash after complaining about the lack of pyjamas on a business class flight.
In a video shared on X, the 59-year-old actor said he, his father and his husband had paid for American Airlines’ flagship service. However, he claimed only passengers in the first two rows received sleepwear on the flight from Los Angeles to London.
The social media row returns John to the spotlight following a turbulent period in his career. He has defended his past on-set conduct after allegations connected to Doctor Who and Torchwood affected his TV work.

The video later disappeared from John’s account after attracting criticism from some X users.
One person wrote: “The entitlement is off the scale. No wonder he deleted the tweet.”
Another joked: “The horror for John Barrowman failing to get pyjamas in business class. I hope he somehow managed to arrive safely.”
A third person called the dispute: “First World problems!!”
However, John also received some support. One user questioned why people objected to him asking about something he believed formed part of the expensive service.
They wrote: “I’m in no way a fan of John Barrowman, but how do people have an issue with him asking for something he’s paid for?”
What did John Barrowman say about the business class pyjamas?
Addressing American Airlines in his video, John said: “Hi American [Airlines] we have paid for the flagship service.
“My father and my husband behind and the tickets were very expensive and we get on thinking we’d get pyjamas with the flagship service. Then you apparently only give them to the first two rows in business class.
“What’s that all about?”
The Torchwood actor also claimed the airline had got his meal order wrong. He told the company: “So far you’re not batting very high.”
John continued his complaint in the comments below the video. He described the situation as “shady and bad customer service” and said the flagship experience was not “hitting the ball out of the park”.
John Barrowman’s previous career controversy
John has previously defended himself over historic allegations concerning his conduct on the sets of Doctor Who and Torchwood.
During an interview with STV’s Scotland Tonight, he said: “I don’t regret anything. It’s not so much regret; it was something that was stupid and silly and it was done.”
He denied walking around and flashing people at random. Instead, John described situations involving nude scenes and what he claimed should have been closed sets.
The actor added that “everybody on set was having a laugh” at the time. He also characterised the incidents as taking place during “a different time”.
The allegations came to wider attention in 2021 and included claims that John had exposed himself to colleagues between 2005 and 2011.
ITV later dropped him from his judging role on Dancing on Ice. John subsequently claimed he had been “blacklisted completely” by the entertainment industry following the controversy.
