Prince William and Princess Kate to miss out on BAFTAs

Kensington Palace has confirmed this week that Prince William, 42, and Kate, 43, will not be attending the BAFTAs this Sunday (February 16).

The ceremony, hosted by David Tennant, is set to take place at the beginning of their children George, Charlotte, and Louis’ half-term holiday from Lambrook school. It’s said this could be the reason why the couple won’t attend.

According to reports, this means that the Waleses will be prioritising family time over walking the red carpet this year.

Over the years, the couple have regularly appeared on the red carpet at the prestigious award show.

Prince William is the president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. However, he hasn’t attended the ceremony in consecutive years since taking on the role in 2010.

Kate made her first appearance at the BAFTAs in 2017. She also attended the following year whilst pregnant with Prince Louis.

William and Kate were also at the ceremony in 2020, which took place a month or so before the pandemic forced the UK into lockdown.

The royal couple opted to skip the ceremony in 2021, just before the death of Prince Philip.

They failed to attend the 2022 ceremony, however were present in 2023 when the event paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Last year, William attended with Kate missing out. The ceremony took place just over a month before Kate announced she’d been diagnosed with cancer. The Princess of Wales is now in remission.

However, whilst William won’t be celebrating the best of movies this Sunday, he will be helping a group of sixth-formers shoot a film this week.

The future king will be at London Screen Academy, a sixth form in Highbury, to help Year 13 students create a short film called Melomania.

Prince William ‘prone to tantrums’

In other William-related news, the future king is reportedly prone to tantrums, according to a new book.

An extract from Tom Quinn’s new 2025 book, Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, was recently published by The Times.

And one of the big alleged reveals from book is that Prince William is quick to anger.

“I don’t know where William would be without Kate,” a source allegedly told the author.

“She hasn’t had everything done for her throughout her life, so she calms him down when he gets a bit fractious.”

“She said he sometimes has to be treated as her fourth child,” they claimed.
