Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s power dynamic seemed to shift for their 2021 TIME magazine cover.
Harry, 40, has long struggled with his role as the ‘spare’ within the royal family. However, some royal commentators now suggest that history is repeating itself – not within the monarchy, but in his marriage to Meghan, 43.
A commentator has examined the couple’s evolving power dynamic through body language analysis.
His findings suggest that Meghan has taken on a dominant role, leaving Harry in the background.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s power dynamic ‘shift’ in 2021 TIME magazine cover
In the latest episode of the YouTube series Reading The Royals, Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden shared his thoughts on the couple’s dynamic.
One of the most telling examples of this power shift, according to Richard, is Meghan and Prince Harry’s Time magazine cover from September 2021.
The couple were featured in the publication’s 100 Most Influential People list.
The image shows Meghan standing front and centre in a bright white outfit. Meanwhile, Harry, dressed in all black, stands behind her with his hands resting on her shoulders.
Meghan dominates the image, while Harry is positioned firmly in the background.
“Oh wow, I don’t think it is an exaggeration to say this is one of the most striking pictures ever taken of a royal couple. It is amazing that an image can say so much,” Richard remarked.
However, he went on to say: “It is also, I don’t think it is unfair to say, absolutely absurd. That a royal couple would ever do a shoot like this is extraordinary in itself, what does it say about their changing power dynamic?”
Meghan Markle ‘dominates’ in TIME magazine’s cover photo
Richard explained that Harry’s positioning behind Meghan was highly unusual, especially given that he is the one with royal lineage.
“Meghan dominates the image, while Harry is positioned firmly in the background. A clear reversal of the roles we might have expected as he is the royal,” he observed. “Meghan stands unquestionably confident wearing bright white, and her splayed hair stands out, while Harry pops out behind her shoulder in what just looks a bit awkward, like a child appearing behind an adult’s knee or like he wants a piggyback.”
At the time, the photo sparked intense debate. Many social media users mocked its “awkward” and “heavily airbrushed” look.
“Wow, this photo speaks volumes. There is no hiding who’s in control,” one online critic wrote.
According to Richard, the power dynamic shift was also evident after their 2018 wedding.
He observed that, as time passed, Meghan began “leading” and “guiding” the way. A telling image from their wedding day shows Meghan placing her hand over Harry’s as he put the ring on her finger.
Richard suggested that this move could symbolise her taking control.
Despite criticism of their appearances, Meghan and Harry have continued to embrace the “power couple” branding.
Since stepping back from their senior royal roles in 2020, Harry and Meghan have been building their life in California.
Meghan has an upcoming Netflix lifestyle show – With Love, Meghan – premiering on Netflix in March.
Queen Consort Camilla is set to undergo a major title change following the coronation in May, it has recently been reported.
Now, the real reason behind this change in title has been revealed by a royal expert – and it’s not due to her popularity.
Queen Consort Camilla to undergo major title change
Last week it was revealed that Camilla will undergo a major title change at the coronation.
As reported by The Mirror last Thursday (March 16), Camilla will be dropping the ‘Consort’ from her Queen Consort title soon.
Once the coronation is done, the 75-year-old will reportedly be simply known as Queen Camilla going forwards.
The news was revealed when the coronation edition of the bible was leaked.
In it, it reads: “To commemorate the Coronation of their majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla. In the Abbey Church of St Peter, Westminster. The sixth day of May 2023.”
When Camilla first married Charles, it was expected that she would become Princess Consort when Charles became King.
However, as per the late Queen Elizabeth’s wishes, Camilla’s title was changed to Queen Consort when Charles took the throne.
Now it seems as though another tweak is in order for Camilla’s royal title.
Why is Queen Consort Camilla changing her title?
Now, the real reason behind Camilla’s title change has been revealed – and it’s nothing to do with her popularity.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliam spoke exclusively to ED! about the decision to change Camilla’s title and the reasoning behind it.
“Camilla’s history with titles is unique,” he said.
“She was Princess of Wales but chose to be known as the Duchess of Cornwall,” he then continued.
” It was the official position that when Charles ascended the throne she would be known as Princess Consort, until the Queen’s intervention in the eve of her Platinum Jubilee.”
“She is Queen Consort, but it is a heavy handed title,” he then said.
Camilla title change not down to ‘popularity’
The royal expert then continued, saying: “None of the previous three Queen Consorts used it, Alexandra, Mary and Elizabeth were all known as Queen.”
“In the age of social media and the net bad habits such as calling Catherine – Kate Middleton persist,” he then said.
“It also makes sense to make a title easier to use, which is why the change is likely,” he then continued.
Camilla’s history with titles is unique.
Richard then revealed at this point that the title change has nothing to do with popularity.
“It isn’t really linked to her personal popularity,” he said.
However, there is also another reason behind the change, according to the royal expert.
“Queen Consort Camilla sounds clunky so it will probably change,” he revealed.
