King Charles and Queen Camilla to spend 20th wedding anniversary in Italy
On April 9, the king and queen will mark 20 years of marriage. They tied the knot in a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall on April 9, 2005.
They will visit the Holy See and the Republic of Italy from April 7 to April 10, 2025. On Tuesday (March 18), the royal family’s social media pages shared more details on the royal couple’s trip.
During their visit to the Holy See, King Charles and Queen Camilla will have an audience with Pope Francis – the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State.
They’ll also attend a service in the Sistine Chapel to reflect on Pope Francis and the king’s commitment to nature.
The king will visit the Papal Basilica of St Paul’s Outside the Walls – one of the four major basilicas in Rome.
What the king and queen will do in Rome
Meanwhile, whilst in Rome, King Charles will become the first British monarch to address a joint session of the Italian Parliament.
The monarch, alongside Queen Camilla and President Mattarella, will watch a flypast over Rome by the Frecce Tricolori and the Red Arrows.
It will surely be an unforgettable visit, especially as the king and queen will be celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary.
The royal couple will then travel to Ravenna, where they will attend a reception marking the 80th anniversary of the province’s liberation by Allied forces.
There will also be a festival taking part to celebrate Emilia-Romagna cuisine, Slow Food and the region’s produce.
Royal fans appear ecstatic over the trip, with many predicting it’ll be “unforgettable”.
One person gushed in the comment section: “It will surely be an unforgettable visit, especially as the king and queen will be celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary during the visit.”
Another wrote: “So excited to welcome Their Majesties in our country.”
Someone else commented: “Ravenna is very honoured to welcome Their Majesties the king and queen.”
The visit comes amid King Charles’ cancer battle. He announced his diagnosis last February and has been undergoing treatment since.
