For those that have never watched Home Alone (which isn’t possible, right?!) the movie basically follows a Chicago kid Kevin McCallister (Macaulay) who goes to extreme and hilarious lengths to protect his family’s HUGE home from burglars.

And even now, 33 years later the McCallister residence still has people talking, thanks to its countless bedrooms and impressive facade.

What’s more, it’s a real place too, that fans can go and drive by for a spot of Christmas nostalgia.

Where is the Home Alone house located?

The property‘s address is 671 Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, which is a northern suburb of Chicago.

While it was used to film exterior shots, the home was also used to shoot inside too, including the living room and the now-famous rather grand staircase.

But it turns out the pad wasn’t that big enough to shoot all the interior shots. As a result, the movie makers filmed some scenes at an abandoned school in the town.

How much is the house?

With a ton of bedrooms, a fancy staircase and probably more than one bathroom, it’s no surprise this house comes with a hefty price tag!

Looper consulted with a real estate expert and agent with over 30 years of experience to work out the amount.

In 1990, when the movie was released, experts estimated the home was with £486,886 ($620,000). But in today’s times, they reckon it could be just over £1.8 million! ($2.3 million).

What’s more back in 2012, it was reported by The Chicago Tribune that the Home Alone house sold for nearly £1.2 million ($1.6 million).
