Prince Harry and Meghan Markle caught royal enthusiasts and romantics by surprise Thursday with the release of their highly anticipated engagement photos just before Christmas.
Kensington Palace tweeted out the stunning images along with the simple caption: "Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle, December 2017."
One black and white photo shows the future husband and wife embracing as they flash huge smiles. Harry is wearing a dark-colored coat and Meghan has on a white sweater, with her diamond engagement ring front and center.
In another picture, Harry, 33, rests the side of his face on the 36-year-old Suits actress' head as they sit on a set of stairs and look toward the camera.
The groom-to-be is dressed in a dapper blue suit, matching tie and white shirt. While Meghan wears a semi-sheer, black tulle ball gown with gold detailing and a floor-skimming skirt. According to Elle magazine, the sheer dress is from design house Ralph & Russo's fall 2017 couture collection. It is rumored to cost about $75,000.
Ralph & Russo is a favorite among young celebrities including Rihanna and Zendaya.
The pictures were taken by British-born photographer Alexi Lubomirski, who's worked with a long list of Hollywood stars.
The Guardian described the photos as "younger, hipper, cooler" than most royal portraits, adding that they look "akin to a fashion campaign."
Kensington Palace's Twitter feed was flooded with comments and well-wishes including: "Gorgeous! You can feel the love!"
Another person added: "Stunning, absolutely Stunning. Truly a perfect match made in heaven, they look so in love! May God bless them with long life & happiness!"
While a third wrote: "Beautiful. They look so happy."
Even celebrity blogger Perez Hilton chimed in on the comments section, saying: "I'm shook!"
Alexi took to Instagram to share the photos and to thank the couple for the opportunity to snap their pictures.
"A huge thank you to His Royal Highness Prince Harry and Ms Markle, for allowing me to take their official engagement portraits," he wrote.
The photographer added: "Not only was it an incredible honour, but also an immense privilege to be invited to share and be a witness to this young couple’s love for each other. I cannot help but smile when I look at the photos that we took."

Harry and Meghan announced their engagement in late November, and are set to walk down the aisle five months from now.
According to Kensington Palace, the couple will get married on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.
Unlike Prince William's marriage to Kate Middleton, this wedding will not be deemed a national holiday.
