As fans know, Hoda shares an extremely close bond with her mother and sister.

Late last year, Hoda broke down in tears during an episode of Today as she shared a moving story about how Hala was right by her side as she underwent an MRI scan, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Sharing the memory, the beloved newscaster said: "So I had to go into a tube for some kind of MRI and I was scared to go in and stuff, anyway," before breaking down in tears as Hala comforted her.

"Hala sat next to me and [the doctors] said to Hala, 'You can't be in there because of the radiation' and [Hala] said, 'I'm not leaving' and she sat there through the whole thing," she added.
