After joking about Mike Pence's Christian beliefs on The View, Joy Behar has apologized to the Vice President.
When discussing the "extreme" things Omarosa Manigault Newman said about Pence while on Celebrity Big Brother, Behar responded with, "It’s one thing to talk to Jesus, it’s another thing for Jesus to talk to you. That’s called mental illness if I’m not correct, hearing voices."
Behar was immediately met with backlash for the comments she made on the Feb. 13 episode of The View.
On Monday, March 12, Pence told Fox News' Sean Hannity that Behar had called him to make amends for everything she said about him.
"I give Joy Behar a lot of credit. She picked up the phone. She called me," he told Hannity.
"She was very sincere, and she apologized and one of the things my faith teaches me is grace; forgive as you’ve been forgiven."
After insisting he urged Behar to use The View to "apologize to tens of millions of Americans who were equally offended," she did just that.
On Tuesday, March 13, Behar addressed the comments live on air.
"I think Vice President Pence is right," she said. "I was raised to respect everyone's religious faith, and I fell short of that. I sincerely apologize for what I said."
Her apology was met with applause from the audience, with Whoopi Goldberg segueing into the day's "Hot Topics" after that.
